    The high power consumption of 5G base stations is also one of the reasons why 5G communications are difficult to spread over a wide range. There are even rumors that 5G will be turned off at night because it consumes so much power, and then turned on again during the day. So is this statement true?

    1. Rumors that 5G devices sleep at night

    Although it is now claimed that the communication industry has entered the 5G era, a large number of communication mobile phones, communication equipment, etc. support 5G, and the construction of 5G base stations in every rural corner is complete, but there are not many occasions where 5G is actually used.

    The operation of 5G base stations is also difficult to reach a stable level. Although the network speed has increased compared with 4G, the increase is very limited. Therefore, the so-called staff explained that the current 5G is facing the problem of high power consumption, so the 5G base station does not open all functions on a daily basis, but only controls the work at the lowest threshold.

    Moreover, China Unicom staff previously claimed that China Unicom has implemented an intelligent startup device for 5G equipment, which can turn on the sleep mode during leisure time and wait until the usage is high before turning on the equipment, thereby achieving the best power saving effect.

    This is also interpreted to mean that 5G devices will sleep at night, but in fact the sleep mode is not equal to the hibernation mode. Although the 5G device sleeps, it can still guarantee the basic use of the user, and only uses its own power according to the number of users. adjust.

    So the speed of 5G is not much different from that of 4G, so why does the power consumption increase exponentially?

    2. Why does 5G consume so much power?

    As the two leading companies in the construction of 5G base stations in China, Huawei and ZTE have previously announced the power consumption data of 5G equipment. The results are about three times that of 4G equipment at full load. The reason why there is such a disparity in results is because the frequencies used by the two are completely different.

    5G base stations use high power consumption and high radio frequency signals, which are used to process more signals from digital units and electromechanical units, and will also put greater pressure on the AU module. But at the same time, it can also bring users faster signal reception and response.

    In the same way, if 5G signals are used, the power consumption of mobile phone users' devices will continue to increase, and high-frequency use will also lead to serious heat generation. Seriously, it may even affect the service life of the equipment.
